Shake-table test assessment of a base-isolation device for the seismic protection of the Goddess of Morgantina statue

Abstract. Monuments and museums contents in the Mediterranean area have revealed a poor dynamic behavior suffered large damages during past severe seismic events. Their protection deserved great research efforts due to their inestimable values high cultural significance. From an analytic point of view, art museum objects, statues displays are generally modelled as rigid blocks been extensively studied non-linear context. On other hand, only limited experimental researches carried out. Base isolation devices proven be highly effective control for statue-like items. This work presents analytical study dynamical characterization bidirectional base-isolation device. The ability device reducing response objects has investigated by means full-scale shaking table tests out at L.E.D.A. Research Institute “Kore” University Enna. Experimental results then used calibrate model Goddess Morgantina statue selected case-study its significance since it is equipped with base-isolating present placement.
